K-12 Teaching Experience

  • New York City Center – Encores! Teaching Artist/ Director - Choreographer (September 2019- Present): I co-facilitate a variety of musical theatre in-school workshops and residencies toprovide students with a creative, critical, and collaborative study of the performing arts.Students explore and see live Broadway revivals.

  • TADA! Youth Theatre - Teaching Artist/ Director Choreographer (August 2018- Present): I co-facilitate a variety of musical theatre workshops, camps and residencies that are either brought to the schools or held at TADA's rehearsal studio or theatre. Students explore original musical theatre material as well as well known repertoire. 

  • Disney Theatrical Productions / Disney on Broadway - Teaching Artist (September 2017- present): I co-facilitate musical theater workshops, classes, talkbacks, and assemblies. In the near future, I will collaborate with DTP's licenses of "musical titles for local, school and community theatre productions" through the Disney Musicals In Schools Program.

  • Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts- Teaching Artist (October 2014- 2018):  I collaborated with college professors in various disciplines and subjects in the development of Aesthetic Education workshops through Lincoln Center Education’s Learning Framework that would enrich their syllabus in areas such as artistry, lesson/activity design, facilitation and environment, student engagement, questioning and inquiry-based instruction, reflection, and partnerships. Previous partnerships include graduate and undergraduate courses with CUNY’s Medgar Evers College, City College of New York, and Brooklyn College’s School of Education. Current engagements with adult learners are though ACTIVATE, a year-long professional development for educators, artists, teaching artists, and arts leaders in New York and beyond by offering a focused space for collaboration and innovation.

  • Movement of the People Dance Company’s Winter Intensive: Dance Choreograph, Envision 2018: I designed and facilitated Afro-Mexican Dance: Celebrating authentic Mestizaje: a class that explored movement from the Afro-Mestizo dances from la Costa Chica in Guerrero, México and reviewed some of the Afro-Caribbean characteristics of dances from the Carnival of Veracruz. Throughout the experiential process, we discussed general historic and socio-political elements that originated and settled African cultures in México.  We also discussed the interwoven cultural and artistic African influences, vibrantly present in various festivities and religious celebrations throughout the country. *New York, NY.

  • Lincoln Center Education’s Summer Forum 2017: 2-Day Considering Classrooms as Community Laboratory Co-presented with Melissa Gawlowski Pratt, Ashley Watkins, and Rheanna Abbott.   • Movement of the People Dance Company’s Winter Intensive: Dance Choreograph, Envision 2015 & 2017: I designed and co-taught an Aztec Dance master class exploring Pre-Hispanic Mexican Dance of Concheros, also known as Aztec Dance, Conquest Dance, or Mexica Dance.   • Movement of the People Dance Company’s Winter Intensive: Dance Choreograph, Envision 2016: I taught the master class titled Inside/Out (Mexican Folkloric) - Exploration of costumes and props as an extension of our body. With focus on Mestizo (Post-colonization) dances and styles from regions in México, particularly West-Central México and the East Coast, the class explored traditional dance forms through manipulation of costume pieces and props highlighting African and European influences. *New York, NY.

  • Lincoln Center Education’s Summer Forum 2015: 2-Day Research Laboratory Co-presented with John Holyoke, Assistant Director, Pre-K-12 and Higher Education. I developed workshops embedded in LC’s Aesthetic Education methodology to support and connect with research processes. Professional Performance Experience

 

  • Canady Foundation for the Arts- Repertory Company Member (September 2021- Present): Collaborations with CFA embody culture, spirit and storytelling. Our work is rooted in community and social justice and specializes in performing theatre of the African Diaspora and theatre for Young Audiences.

  • Callaloo Kids (2017- 2019): As a performer and teaching artist, I collaborate with the various projects of the children’s media brand that promotes cultural understanding and social awareness education for toddlers and children ages 3-7 through books, animation, live performance, digital content, games and arts education tools. Current residency at the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute involves a new season of SouSou! Saturdays, puppet performances, fun art-making, dance, and/or music workshops.

  • Movement of the People Dance Company (2014-Present):  I debuted with Bessie-Award-Winner Joya Powell’s dance company performing at the 4th Annual Check Us Out Dance Festival in July 2014. Works with the company include: Song and Dance You(For) Those We Left Behind, Movimento do Povo, Paint the Town Red Hook, and Her Veiled Reflections (Featured in April 2015's Dance Magazine and Dance Teacher Magazine).   • Calpulli Mexican Dance Company (September 2013-October 2016): Last performance (Principal and ensemble) was at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival 2016 for the Inside/Out Series. I debuted with the NYC dance company performing a variety of traditional and creative Mexican Folkloric dances at the 10th Anniversary Concert on October 19 and 20, 2013 at Queens Theatre in the Park. Performance venues with the company include  Lincoln Center, Aaron Davis Hall, United Palace Theatre, Jacob Javits Convention Center, Museo Del Barrio, among others. I toured with the company around the Tri-state area, California and at the Cullen Theater at Wortham Center in Houston, Texas.   • El Paso Opera Company- Minnie (October 2011): I performed the Broadway Musical and movie hit West Side Story. Under the Direction of Mr. David Grabarkewitz and Choreography of Sean Curran, I shared stage with local artists and New York personalities and was featured at the promotion videos. The performance was held at the Plaza Theatre on October 7, 8, & 9, 2011. *El Paso, TX.

  • UTEP Don Haskins Center and NMSU Pan-American Center -Opening Show Soloist Performer (Feb. 2003):  I performed for the opening show of the international pop-star “Shakira" massive concert held at the UTEP Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas and the Pan-American Center in Las Cruces, NM. I became involved with a professional massive concert production process and choreographed a dance performance as soloist to highlight the opening show singer Victor Soleil. *El Paso, TX and Las Cruces, NM.

  • McKelligon Canyon Amphitheater -El Paso Association for the Performing Arts- Soloist Performer/Special Edition Company Member (2003 -2004):  I performed at EPAPA’ show Viva El Paso as part of the ensemble and with two soloist appearances as Isabella for Spanish Section and Spider Goddess for the Native American section.   • University of Texas at El Paso Theatre, Dance and Film Department (2004):  I performed for the original musical The Serpent’s Lover as Micaela. I was able to work on the environment of a studio theater following the professional process of a theatre production.   • University of Texas at El Paso Dinner Theatre (2006-2007):  I performed for the UTEP Dinner Theatre 25th Anniversary Concert Celebrating the Songs of Academy Award and Tony Award Winning Lyricist Sir Tim Rice as part of the choir on April 12, 2008, as Rumpelteazer at the Broadway Musical CATS on spring 2007 and as part of the ensemble at Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on summer 2006. * El Paso, TX.

  • University of Texas at El Paso Theatre, Dance and Film Department - Assistant Choreographer (2008): I assisted my mentor and professor Mr. Myron Nadel in the process of choreographing the musical Three Penny Opera in Fall 2008 as a graduate seminar class that prepared me for the Texas State certification in K-12 dance. I was in charge of supervising rehearsals, teaching the routines, staging the numbers, and reviewing dance numbers with the cast. * El Paso, TX.

  • University of Texas at El Paso Music Department-Music Theatre Company - Performer (2006-2007):  I Choreographed and performed during spring 2007 for the One Act opera Gallantry in the show Comedy Tonight as the Announcer. On fall 2006, I choreographed and understudied a principal role/Woman 2 for the Broadway show Songs for a New World. I performed as Suor Osmina and elaborated costumes for the Opera Suor Angelica on spring 2006. As Jenny, I performed on the musical From Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill on Fall 2005 and on Spring 2005 I choreographed and understudied Ti Moune for Once on This Island. * El Paso, TX.

  • El Paso City’s Cesar Chavez Commemorative Committee - Choreographer (Spring 2006):  I had the opportunity to work with Rebecca Elias once again to choreograph a new production of The Migrant’s Farm Worker’s Son on spring 2006 for the El Paso City’s Cesar Chavez Commemorative Committee. Through this production I to became familiar with El Paso area schools’ theatres such as Socorro High School, San Elizario High School, Canutillo High School, and Bel Air High School. * El Paso, TX.

  • University of Texas at El Paso Theatre, Dance and Film Department - Choreographer (Fall 2005): I choreographed The Migrant’s Farm Worker’s Son as a volunteer work for the final graduate project of Rebecca Elias at the University of Texas at El Paso Theatre, Dance and Film Department on Fall 2005 being in charge of preparing 6 performers and dancers for a rehearsal process and performance. * El Paso, TX.
